When your device’s data roaming settings are turned on, you can use your device at the pay-as-you-go rate per megabyte (MB) of data used or consider adding Global Travel Pass to save money.
When data roaming settings are turned off, your device won’t connect to any non-U.S. cellular networks, and you won’t incur any data roaming charges. You may need to restart your device for the settings change to apply.
You can still use many apps offline or on WiFi. When connected to WiFi, your device uses that connection for internet access, and most apps will work normally. You only need cellular data when you're not on WiFi.
Some apps may use data in the background; to avoid international data charges, turn off data roaming before you travel to avoid paying the pay-as-you-go rate or consider adding Global Travel Pass to save money.
