A new smart TV. A laptop for school. A video doorbell by the front door. The average home now has dozens of devices connected to WiFi, and each one can create a new opportunity for online threats. That's why internet safety doesn't start with a single device. It starts with your network. Xfinity CyberSecure, a core feature of Xfinity WiFi Shield, helps protect every device connected to your Xfinity WiFi Gateway by screening for malware, phishing attempts, hacking activity, and other online threats before they reach devices in your home. Best of all, the protection is built in, with no extra equipment, installation, or per-device setup required.
What is Xfinity CyberSecure?
WiFi Shield is a collection of digital, physical, and family protection features included with Xfinity Internet. CyberSecure is a core feature of WiFi Shield that helps protect any device connected to the Xfinity WiFi Gateway from malware, hackers, phishing attempts, and other online threats before they reach devices in the home.
Many security tools protect one device at a time, but CyberSecure works at the WiFi level instead, helping safeguard every connected device through the network itself. Phones, laptops, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and smart home devices all connect through the same layer of protection.
Built into your Xfinity WiFi Gateway, there's no software to install, no updates to manage, and no setup required for individual devices. It's always on.
How CyberSecure Works
Your Xfinity WiFi Gateway sits between your home and the internet. Because every device on your WiFi connects through the gateway, CyberSecure can help identify and stop threats before they reach any of the devices you use every day.
It is especially useful for devices that can't typically run traditional antivirus software, such as smart TVs, gaming consoles, and many smart home products. Because protection is built into the WiFi network itself, those devices will still be protected with CyberSecure.
- Every device connected to your home WiFi network connects through your Xfinity WiFi Gateway.
- The gateway assesses traffic, and CyberSecure continuously monitors network activity for malware, phishing attempts, suspicious websites, and signs of potential hacking activity.
- CyberSecure helps to detect and block threats at the boundary to stop malicious activity before it reaches devices connected to your network.
- Protection stays on around the clock. AI-powered monitoring runs continuously in the background, with no scans to schedule and nothing you need to turn on.
The three layers of CyberSecure protection
Network-level protection
Detects threats, blocks malware, and helps stop malicious websites, phishing attempts, and scams at the gateway before they reach any device connected to your network.
Device-aware protection
Provides safe browsing and endpoint security for devices on your network, while giving you visibility and control when new devices connect.
Privacy protection
Helps keep your personal information and online activity private. Protection is designed to face outward, helping block threats from reaching your network rather than monitoring activity within it.
What threats CyberSecure screens for and blocks
CyberSecure is designed to help stop the online threats people worry about most. These threats can be difficult to spot on your own, and many happen behind the scenes before you even realize there is a risk.
Malware
Malicious software designed to damage devices or gain unauthorized access can be blocked before it reaches your network.
Hacking attempts
Attempts to gain unauthorized access to your network or connected devices can be detected and blocked at the gateway.
Phishing and scams
Fraudulent websites and messages designed to steal personal information can be blocked before they load.
Malicious websites
Known risky or malicious websites can be blocked at the network level, helping prevent them from loading on devices connected to your WiFi.
CyberSecure vs. device-specific security tools
CyberSecure works by helping protect your network itself, where all of your connected devices come together.
| Feature | Device-Specific Tools | Xfinity CyberSecure |
|---|---|---|
| Where It Protects | One device at a time | Every device on your WiFi |
| Setup | Install on each device | Automatic, nothing to install |
| Coverage | Phones and laptops, if installed | Phones, laptops, smart TVs, gaming consoles, and smart home devices |
| Management | Update and scan each device | Always on and working in the background |
| Threat Blocking | After it reaches the device | Before it reaches any device |
