Learn how to use the Xfinity app or Xfinity Home app to add a camera to your Xfinity Home Security system. If you don't have an Xfinity Camera yet, visit Xfinity Cameras to get started!
Before activating your Xfinity Camera
- Identify your camera — Different cameras have different activation instructions.
- Download the Xfinity app or the Xfinity Home app.
- Use the Xfinity app, if you have Self Protection.
- Use either app, if you have Xfinity Home.
- Turn on Bluetooth for your mobile device.
- Turn on Location Services to allow the app to use your location.
- Choose a spot for your camera. The Xfinity Indoor Camera (xCam3) should only be placed indoors.
- Plug it into the power outlet you will use once it's mounted.
- Make sure the outlet is inside and not controlled by a wall switch.
- Make sure you have good WiFi where the camera will be placed.
- Use your phone to run a speed test (connected to WiFi). You'll need at least 3 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload speed.
- To improve performance, plug the power adapter closer to your gateway or use Xfinity WiFi Extenders to extend the WiFi range.
Notes:
- Activate one camera at a time.
- Use the power adapter that comes with your camera.
- If using your own modem or a third-party internet provider, set the WiFi Network Configuration Security Mode to WPA2 + AES.
Getting started
- Sign in with your Xfinity ID.
- Xfinity app: Select the Account tab, then select the Activate Xfinity Camera.
- Xfinity Home app: Select More, then Add a device, then Xfinity Camera.
- Allow Bluetooth and location services on your mobile device. These are required.
- Select Get Started.
- Place your camera inside or near an inside power outlet if installing outside. Select Next.
- If mounting outside, the power adapter must be plugged in inside. See tips for outside installation.
- Connect the camera's Ethernet cable to the power adapter. Plug the power adapter into an inside power outlet that is not controlled by a light switch. Select Next.
- Make sure the adapter is visible and not too close to objects that could block the WiFi signal. Select I'm Ready. Let's Go!.
- Wait for the camera to power up.
- When the light on the front of the camera blinks blue or white, select The Light is Blinking.
- If the light isn't blinking, wait two minutes and try again. If still not blinking, select I Don't See the Light and follow the instructions.
- When the light on the front of the camera blinks blue or white, select The Light is Blinking.
- Hold your phone near the power adapter.
- The system will find and add your camera to the network. This may take a few minutes. Once connected, select Next.
- Enter a name for the camera's location, such as "Back Door," then select Next.
- If you have 24/7 Video Recording, you can turn it on for the camera. Select Turn On. Otherwise, select Leave Off.
- You can turn it on or off at any time and have up to six cameras running 24/7 Video Recording.
- If you want sound for your live and recorded video, select Turn On. Otherwise, select Leave Off.
- Microphones are only turned on if you turn them on. You can change your audio settings at any time from the camera's Settings screen. Read our privacy policy.
- Place the camera on a flat surface or mount it to a wall using screws and anchors. Select Finish.
- Note: Do not mount your Xfinity Indoor Camera outdoors.
- Select the camera.
- Xfinity app: Select the Security tab, then select the camera thumbnail.
- Xfinity Home app: Select the camera thumbnail.
- Check the live video feed and adjust the camera to show your desired view.
Congratulations! You have successfully activated your camera.
