Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku?
It's a new app that is in Beta trial that allows XFINITY TV customers to access their XFINITY TV cable service, including live and On Demand programming as well as cloud DVR recordings, on a Roku streaming device or Roku TV.

Why are you calling it a "Beta" app?
Although the app currently is still in its development stages, we're making it available to our customers to try it out and give us feedback. Allowing customers to access the app before we complete all of our planned development will help us make some final tweaks before our official launch.

The XFINITY Stream Beta app will not include the ability to rent or buy programming, however it includes the ability to play back previously purchased programs. SAP may experience intermittent availability in the XFINITY Stream Beta app. The development team will continue working hard to add those features and others and improve usability throughout the Beta phase. For additional information on features and functionality, please visit the XFINITY Stream on Roku thread on forums.xfinity.com.

What is required to use the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku?
To use the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku, you must currently subscribe to XFINITY TV and XFINITY Internet service, have at least one Comcast-provided TV box, a CableCARD and have a compatible IP gateway in your home. If you are a current XFINITY Internet customer, you don't need any additional equipment because your Internet gateway can also be used as your cable service gateway.

In addition, XFINITY Stream package customers who have a compatible XFINITY IP gateway and XFINITY On Campus customers will also be able to use the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku.

During this Beta phase, due to technical limitations, customers using the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku (other than XFINITY Instant TV and XFINITY On Campus customers) can only use that app on secondary TV outlets and will need to have at least one Comcast-provided TV box or CableCARD in their home as their primary outlet. Customers using the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku on secondary TV outlets using Rokus do not require a Comcast-provided TV box or CableCARD.

What Roku devices can I use the app with?
Initially, the XFINITY Stream Beta app will only be available for use on the following Roku players: Ultra (4640), Premiere (4630), Premiere (4620), Express (3710), Express (3700, 3710), Roku TV (5XXX, 6XXX: Models within the 5000 and 6000 range), Streaming Stick (3600), Roku 4 (4400), Roku 3 (4200, 4230), Roku 2 (4210). The XFINITY TV Beta channel will only appear in the channel store for eligible devices. Devices must be on minimum firmware version 7.5.

Is there a charge for using the XFINITY Stream Beta app on Roku?
Customers will not pay equipment charges with respect to their use of Roku devices. All other fees associated with a customer's service will apply, except that, during the Beta trial, additional outlet charges for services to outlets connected to Roku devices are being waived. On conclusion of the trial, you will be informed of the charges that will apply for connecting this device with your XFINITY TV service and will have the opportunity to opt in.

Will the XFINITY Stream Beta app use data from my XFINITY Internet Data Usage Plan?
Live TV, XFINITY On Demand and Cloud DVR recordings will not count against your Internet data usage threshold if you are connected to your in-home XFINITY network. The XFINITY TV video service delivered through the XFINITY Stream Beta app is not an Internet service and does not touch or use the Internet. Rather, it is a Title VI cable service delivered solely over Comcast's private, managed cable network, so it will not count toward your XFINITY Internet Data Usage Plan. Usage of any other apps on Roku devices, including any TV Everywhere apps accessible with your XFINITY TV credentials, do use the Internet and will count against your XFINITY Internet Data Usage Plan.
