If you have an Apple iPhone mobile device or iPad device, you can now use the AirPlay software feature to cast Xfinity Stream content to compatible smart TVs and receiving devices, including Apple TV, HomePod, macOS, LG, and Roku devices.
Using AirPlay with Xfinity Stream
You can connect to AirPlay in a number of ways.
Set up AirPlay from the Xfinity Stream app home screen
- From your iPhone or iPad, open the Xfinity Stream app.
- Select the cast icon (
) near the top right.
- Choose AirPlay and Bluetooth Devices from the list.
- Choose the device from the list.
- If this is the first time you’re using AirPlay to cast to the receiving device, a four-digit code will appear on the receiving screen. Enter this on-screen code in the iPhone/iPad prompt.
- You’re all set! Press play and enjoy the Xfinity library on your receiving device.
Set up AirPlay from the movie or show page
- From your iPhone or iPad device, open the Xfinity Stream app.
- Choose the tile for the show or movie you’d like to cast.
- Find and tap the cast icon () near the top right.
- Choose AirPlay or Bluetooth Devices from the list.

- Choose the tile for the show or movie you’d like to cast.

- Find and tap the AirPlay Logo™ (
) at the top of the screen.
- Select a receiving target from the list.
- If this is the first time you’re AirPlay casting to the receiving device, a four-digit code will appear on the receiving screen. Enter this on-screen code in the iPhone/iPad prompt.
- You’re all set! Press play and enjoy the Xfinity library on your receiving device.
Set up AirPlay from the iOS control panel
- If you’ve started watching a show or movie in the Xfinity Stream app on your iPhone or iPad, swipe the top right corner to get to the iOS control panel.
- Find and tap the AirPlay Logo ().
- Choose the device on which you want to watch Xfinity Stream using AirPlay.
Switch devices
You can change the device you’re watching on by following these steps:
- Tap the cast icon () at the top right, next to the magnifying glass icon.
- Choose the device on which you’d like to start watching.

I don’t have an Apple phone or tablet. Can I still use AirPlay with Xfinity Stream?
No, unfortunately AirPlay is only available on Apple devices.
Can I use AirPlay with Xfinity Stream to watch on my TV or streaming device?
Yes, if the streaming device is compatible with AirPlay. Check Apple’s list of compatible devices. You’ll also need to check if your Apple device has:
- Xfinity Stream app iOS version 7.8.0 or higher
- iOS 17.0
Can I use AirPlay from the Xfinity Stream on a web browser to watch on my TV or streaming device?
No, not at this time.
What Xfinity Stream content can I cast with AirPlay on my compatible TV or devices?
While connected to your in-home WiFi network, any Xfinity Stream content available to you can be cast using AirPlay from your Apple devices. This includes live and On Demand programming, cloud DVR recordings and purchases.
When you’re away from home, you can use AirPlay to cast out-of-home content (recordings, purchases and rentals, live channels and On Demand content) if the receiving device is on the same WiFi network as the Apple device.
Why does the Xfinity Stream app say I need to be on my home network? I'm on my home network.
Be sure you're connected to your in-home Xfinity network. You might be on the network called xfinitywifi, which is a WiFi hotspot that guests (who are Xfinity Internet customers) can use, so you don't need to give out your password. If your modem or gateway is provided by Xfinity, the network name is usually on the side or bottom of the modem or gateway.
Why does the Xfinity Stream app need access to my local network? (only for iOS 14+ users)
The Xfinity Stream app uses the local network to find and connect to your TV or device.
To enable Local Network access:
- Launch the Settings app on your device running iOS 14+.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Local Network.
- On the next screen, you should see the list of all the apps that have requested permission to find and communicate on your local network.
- Find Xfinity Stream, and swipe or tap the toggle to turn it on.
- When it’s green, the feature is working.
Can I use AirPlay to cast my DVR recordings to my compatible TV or devices?
Yes, you can cast any DVR recording that’s available in Xfinity Stream when you sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
How can I get the best wireless network connectivity?
Try to keep your Apple device within range of your wireless gateway. Avoid placing your gateway on top of other devices and keep it clear of obstacles. Don’t place your gateway in an enclosed area or direct sunlight. To receive a stronger wireless signal, try moving or rotating your gateway into different positions by a few inches.

Can I use AirPlay to cast Xfinity Stream content when my Apple device isn’t connected to my Xfinity in-home WiFi?
Yes, but if you want access to your full channel lineup or on demand library, you must be connected to your in-home Xfinity network.
If you’re connected to another WiFi network, including Xfinity WiFi hotspots or any xfinitywifi network that may be available in your home, you can still use AirPlay, but will only have access to “out of home” programming and watching will count against your internet usage.
How do I use AirPlay to play content from Xfinity Stream to my compatible TV or device?

If you have Xfinity TV (X1 and non-X1 service), you can stream concurrently on five devices, but only three devices can be out-of-home network.
