FAQs
How does the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender work?
The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender provides unlimited cellular data backup in the event of a network outage. Xfinity services rely on power to both your home and our network. A backup battery is available for purchase separately to keep the Pro WiFi Extender connected for up to four hours if the power goes out.
When there isn’t an outage, the Pro WiFi Extender eliminates dead spots in your home by extending the WiFi signal, similar to our WiFi Extenders. See our Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender product overview for additional information.
What internet modems are compatible?
The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender is compatible with XB7, XB8, and XB10 Xfinity Gateways; however, customers who subscribe to Xfinity Pro will receive an XB8 regardless of their speed tier.
Where can I purchase Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender?
Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender is not available for purchase at this time. The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender is only available to eligible Xfinity Internet customers who subscribe to Xfinity Pro.
Are Pro WiFi Extenders and Battery Backup sold separately?

Do Xfinity technicians install the Pro WiFi Extender?

Do I have to re-establish WiFi connection to connected devices with the Pro WiFi Extender?

What is the speed compared to regular internet service?
The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender device provides backup WiFi up to 30/7 Mbps within your home. It’s the same WiFi connection you already have, but at 4G LTE speeds.
How does the cellular backup work? Are there any additional requirements?
During a network or power outage (if you purchase the Battery Backup), the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender automatically switches to a backup 4G LTE cellular network to help keep your home online. It's only available in areas within range of an applicable 4G LTE cellular signal. When activated, internet speeds will be reduced to speeds up to 30 Mbps download/7 Mbps upload.
Coverage works within Xfinity Mobile service areas with no additional requirements.
What cellular network does the Pro WiFi Extender connect to?
The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender device connects to the Xfinity Mobile network and provides WiFi based on 4G LTE connection. You can expect core internet features and applications to be supported when in back up mode, including but not limited to: messaging, video and music streaming, internet browsing, gaming, and video calling.
Where should I place the Pro WiFi Extender device?
For best optimization, the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender should be positioned between five and 30 feet from the Xfinity Gateway. Additionally, the device should be in an elevated position near a window for the best cellular signal.
How do I activate the Pro WiFi Extender?
You can activate the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender using the Xfinity app. The app walks you through the entire setup and activation process, which takes about 15 minutes.
How will I know when the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender device is in Outage mode vs. WiFi Extender mode?
