Check the date and time setting in your operating system (OS)

This document provides you with the steps to verify and change the system date and time for Windows 10/11 and Mac (OS X). These steps should be used in cases when you are unable to access secured sites due to computer clock issues.

Windows 10/11

  1. Navigate to the Windows Start button on your taskbar.
  2. Then, select Settings or press the Windows logo key windows logo key + I to open the Settings menu.
  3. Choose Time & Language and select Date & time. Verify the time zone is correct.
    • If incorrect, click the Time zone section and make any necessary changes.
    • Use the toggle button to turn on Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes if you are in an area that observes Daylight Savings Time.
  4. Compare the current date and time with the local date and time.
    • Pay special attention to the year, month, and day.
    • If the settings are not correct, make any necessary corrections on the calendar.
  5. Once you’ve made your changes, click the close button (X in the top-right corner) to exit the Date and Time window.

Mac OS X

  1. On your Mac device, navigate to the Apple menu Apple logo and then select System Settings.
  2. Click General in the sidebar.
  3. Click Date & Time on the right.
  4. In the Time Zone section, verify the time zone is correct:
    • If incorrect, select the closest city from the pop-up menu or select the Set Time Zone Automatically Using Current Location check-box.
  5. In the Date & Time section, compare the current date and time with the local date and time.
    • Pay special attention to the year, month, and day.
    • If the settings are not correct, make any necessary corrections on the calendar.
  6. Once you’ve made your changes, click the Close button (red button in the top-left corner) to exit the Date & Time window.
