Connect your smart TV
Follow these steps to get your smart TV online:
- Open your TV's network settings (usually found in the Settings menu).
- Choose WiFi or Wireless. Your TV will search for nearby networks.
- Pick your WiFi network name from the list. (Your TV might call it "SSID.")
- If you don't see it, try searching again or type it in manually.
- Enter your WiFi password using your remote or on-screen keyboard. (Your TV might call it a "Network Key.")
Note: Every TV is a little different. If you need help, check your TV's user manual.
Tips for a better connection
- WiFi works well for most streaming, like music or regular video.
- For 4K or high-data streaming, use an Ethernet cable to connect your TV directly to your gateway.
- If your TV won’t connect, you might need to open or unblock ports on your gateway.
- Learn more about port forwarding and port triggering on your Xfinity Gateway.
- Always check your TV’s manual for special settings or troubleshooting steps.
Connect your wireless printer
When your printer is connected to WiFi, you can print from any computer, phone, or tablet on your home network.
Follow these steps:
- Go to the printer's control panel.
- Choose Setup. Looks like a wrench icon.
- Select Network.
- Pick your WiFi network name. (Your printer might call it "SSID.")
Many printers have a Wireless Setup Wizard that walks you through the steps.
- Don’t see your network? Scroll to the bottom and type in your network name and password.
- Still not connecting? Try printing a wireless network test report to check for issues.

Tips for staying connected
- Keep your software up to date.
- Make sure your device has the latest drivers and software.
- Check your device’s user guide for how to update it.
- Check your wireless gateway settings.
- You may need to adjust security settings (like WPA/WPA2), firewall settings, and parental controls.
- To learn more, see firewall setup for wireless gateways.
- Keep your WiFi bands together.
- Some smart devices only work on the 2.4GHz band and may have trouble connecting if your Gateway uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. To help these devices connect:
- On a device connected to your gateway, open a browser and go to http://10.0.0.1.
- Log in to the Admin Tool.
- Select Connection, then Wi-Fi.
- Click EDIT next to 5GHz and 6GHz (for tri-band gateways).
- Select Disable and click SAVE SETTINGS.
- Connect your smart device using its app.
- Go back and re-enable the 5GHz and 6GHz bands.
- Don’t forget to turn the bands back on! If you use Xfinity WiFi Extenders, they won’t work until both bands are enabled.
- Some smart devices only work on the 2.4GHz band and may have trouble connecting if your Gateway uses both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. To help these devices connect:
- Make sure Airplane Mode is off if your phone won’t connect.
