‘The Many Saints of Newark’: what it’s about
In this prequel installment, The Many Saints of Newark hones-in on a young Tony Soprano just as he’s becoming a man in Newark, New Jersey. The city is rife with rival gangs, and Tony’s complicated relationship with his mother and other family members (as well as his budding involvement in mob activity) sets him on the path that will eventually lead to the events depicted in the acclaimed HBO series, The Sopranos.
Michael Gandolfini (the son of the late James Gandolfini, who portrayed Tony Soprano during the original series’ run) stars as a young Tony Soprano, with Vera Farmiga starring as his mother, Livia, who fans may also remember from the original series. Additionally, Alessandro Nivola stars as Dickie Moltisanti, the uncle whom a young Tony Soprano idolizes and models much of his life, character and crime career after.
This deep dive into The Sopranos history will thrill both fans of the series and newcomers alike.
