Halloween Flicks for Kids on Xfinity
Old faves and newer selections make this mix of child-friendly Halloween movies a win.
Hocus Pocus (Disney+)
With the release of Hocus Pocus 2 (which if you haven’t seen, watch it now on Disney+), it’s time to go back to where it all started. The Sanderson sisters are at their best when they’re being bad. When a newcomer to Salem accidentally conjures up the trio of witches, chaos ensues in the best way possible.
Pair it with: Skittles, because the Sandersons are nothing if not colorful.
Hotel Transylvania (Hulu)
It’s time to revisit Dracula’s “five-stake” resort, complete with all your favorite monsters. But what happens when an ordinary dude makes his way into the ghoulish hotel? A whole lot of comedy, that’s what. Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg all lend their voices to this animated comedy.
Pair it with: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, because you can really sink your fangs into them.
Coraline (Vudu)
We just love how beautifully this stop-motion animation embraces Coraline’s story. When Coraline finds a mysterious door in her new house, she’s whisked away to a place that feels both familiar and very, very strange. A young Dakota Fanning lent her voice to the character of Coraline, whereas Teri Hatcher voices her mom.
Pair it with: Sour Patch Kids, because this movie is a little bit sweet and a little bit sour.
Under Wraps 2 (Disney+)
Back in 1997, Disney Channel premiered an original movie called Under Wraps. It followed the story of friends who accidentally revived a mummy they found in the basement. That premise is back with a sequel, Under Wraps 2, released in 2022. Expect more mummies. Lots of ‘em.
Pair it with: Hershey’s Kisses, because just like a mummy, each one is wrapped up.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (Disney+)
This one is really for kids and grownups because The Nightmare Before Christmas is just that good—and a classic. When the one and only Jack Skellington, the king of Halloween Town, learns of Christmas Town and their twinkly magic, he attempts to bring some of it back home. However, that does come to haunt him (pun intended). It’s Tim Burton at his finest.
Pair it with: Twix, because everyone loves a two for one.
Halloween Flicks for Grown-Ups on Xfinity
When you’re in for a scare that’s decidedly not for the littles, try one of these movies.
Halloween Ends (Peacock)
Michael Myers never quits, does he? Well, Laurie Strode (played by the incomparable Jamie Lee Curtis) is ready to put his reign of terror to an end…no matter what. Make it a full marathon with a day of watching the Halloween franchise, if you dare.
Pair it with: Snickers, because this movie is nuts.
It (Max)
When you want to scare the bejeezus out of yourself, a killer clown will get you every time. Stephen King’s It has been terrifying audiences for decades. But we’re partial to the 2017 version for its contemporary approach.
Pair it with: Starburst, mainly because the yellow wrapper reminds us of little Georgie Denborough’s yellow raincoat.
Clue (Hulu)
Not a fan of gore? We totally get it. Celebrate Halloween with a mystery that has a little bit of spook to it. We love 1985’s Clue because the black comedy hits all the right notes of a mystery that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Not surprisingly, it’s getting the reboot treatment with Ryan Reynolds in a starring role.
Pair it with: Laffy Taffy, because the LOLs here are plentiful.
Us (Hulu)
Jordan Peele’s Us will have you jumping out of your seat. An unassuming family vacations at a beachfront home that holds some haunting memories for one of them. When the house is invaded by masked intruders, what happens next is frightful in more than a few different ways. You’ll probably want to watch this one with the lights on.
Pair it with: Dots, because you’ll be trying to connect them throughout the whole film.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Hulu)
A cult classic, you have to watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show at least once in your lifetime. But then you’ll probably be back to watch it again and again. It’s considered a sendup of B movies and science fiction films of the past, but the music alone will keep you entertained.
Pair it with: Candy corn, because it’s a true classic.
