Connect to Xfinity WiFi on your Mac OS X laptop

Your Mac OS X laptop uses your private home WiFi network while at home or Xfinity WiFi when you’re traveling. Follow the steps below to make sure your WiFi is connected all the time.

Connect to Xfinity WiFi on your laptop using Mac OS X

If you're connecting to Xfinity WiFi for the first time, follow all the steps below to configure your computer or laptop to use:
  • Your private home WiFi network at home.
  • Xfinity WiFi when you’re visiting a friend or traveling around town.

If you've previously connected to Xfinity WiFi, follow the steps below starting with Step 2 to ensure you’re securely connected to your private home WiFi network at home. Make sure you’re in range of your home WiFi network before getting started.
  1. Follow our Online Guide for OS X to connect to the Xfinity WiFi network.
  2. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the notification and status bar at the top of your laptop or desktop.

  3. To connect to your private home WiFi network, click your network name in the menu (usually this will be the network with the strongest signal).
    • If you’ve never connected to your private home network on your Xfinity Wireless Gateway, you’ll need to enter the Network Key printed on the label on the bottom of the Gateway.
      • If you’ve already changed the network key from the one on the label, enter that key instead.
      • You can find out more about connecting to your Wireless Gateway at Overview of Xfinity Gateways.
  4. Wait a few seconds while your computer connects.
    • Once your computer is connected to your home private WiFi network, click Open Network Preferences.
  5. Click the Advanced button in the bottom right corner of the window.

  6. On the Wi-Fi tab, click and drag your private home WiFi network to the top of the list of preferred networks, then click OK

  7. Next, click and drag the Xfinity WiFi network (called “xfinitywifi”) until it is second highest on the list, just below your private home WiFi network.
  8. Close the window and you're done.
    • Your computer will now connect to your private home WiFi network when you're at home and the Xfinity WiFi network when you're away from home.

To ensure your Mac OS X laptop automatically connects to secure Xfinity WiFi (XFINITY SSID) when away from home, download and install the Xfinity WiFi hotspot profile.
