Protect your devices, personal information, and family from online threats with easy security tips.
Security tips
Social engineering
Social engineering is when someone tries to trick you into sharing personal or confidential information for fraud. Always make sure a request is real before sharing anything and never give out passwords or other details that could be used to access your accounts.
Links and attachments
Be careful when clicking on links and attachments in emails. Scammers often pretend to be real companies or individuals in email messages to steal people’s information like usernames, passwords, account information, or credit card numbers.
Even if the email looks real, check the sender’s address to make sure it is official.
Strong passwords
Create strong passwords to protect your accounts and devices.
Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Longer passwords are harder to guess.
- Do not use the same password for multiple accounts.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Use MFA to help keep your accounts safe. MFA requires more than one step to sign in and prove your identity.
- Turn on MFA when it is available.
- Use it for important accounts like email, banking, and social media.
- Xfinity offers two-step verification to help protect your account.

Social media settings
Be careful when sharing personal information.
Do not post sensitive or confidential information on social media, like your full birth date, current address, or location.
Update apps and operating systems
Keep your device’s operating system and apps updated to get the latest security updates.
If your device offers automatic updates for apps, turn on this feature.
Secure your information
Keep your payment and personal information safe when shopping online.
- Only enter payment details on websites that start with https://.
- The "s" means the site is secure.
- When using a mobile device, only use trusted apps to shop.
- Be careful when saving payment information in your web browser or mobile wallet.
- Avoid using autofill for payment details.
