Xfinity Communities internet services are either provided by property owners or available for individual residential purchase. With Xfinity Communities internet services, customers are given pre-installed internet equipment in their unit and instant connectivity on the day of their move-in.
FAQs
How do I sign up and activate service at a location that has Xfinity Communities Internet Service?
Activation of Xfinity Communities internet service may be different depending on how you receive your service. If you’re unsure, please check with your property manager.
If you're a resident moving into a community that gives you Xfinity internet service, service activation and disconnection is managed by your property and based on your lease move-in and move-out date. Your Xfinity Internet account will be automatically created prior to your move-in date.
If you’re a resident moving into a community that offers instant-on internet service not provided by your property, you can set up your account by visiting xfinity.com.
On your move-in date, log into the Xfinity app to create your ID and connect to your WiFi.
If you’re an existing Xfinity internet customer leasing equipment and moving into an Xfinity Communities internet property, please be sure to return the WiFi Gateway you currently lease from Xfinity within 10 days of your move-in date to avoid charges.
Who is responsible for the gateway?
Xfinity or your property owns the gateway installed in your unit. Please reach out to Xfinity for support with any gateway issues. The pre-installed gateway should not be removed from its location or returned to Xfinity when you move out — leave the gateway in your unit. Any other leased equipment will need to be returned to avoid charges.
Do I have to pay a gateway rental fee?
If your equipment is provided by your property, there is no gateway rental fee. If your equipment is not provided by your property, standard rental fees apply.
Can I use my own internet equipment?
The pre-installed Xfinity WiFi Gateway is a modem and router in one, and it’s designed to give you the most reliable internet. If your internet equipment is provided by your property, you can connect a compatible router to the Xfinity Gateway. If your internet equipment is not provided by your property and you don’t want to pay a fee, you can use your own compatible device.
What other services are available to me?
You can sign up for any other Xfinity products or services. Once your gateway is active, you’ll be able to use your Xfinity Internet service instantly. If your property provides TV service in addition to the internet, you’ll be able to stream right away by downloading the Xfinity Stream app.
Can I move the gateway to another location?
The pre-installed gateway should not be removed from its location. It should always remain in the pre-installed location to provide internet for current and future residents.
What do I do when I’m moving out?
Make sure to leave the pre-installed gateway in the pre-installed location to avoid unreturned equipment fees. Be sure to take other leased Xfinity equipment (like your TV box) with you if you plan to use Xfinity service at your new address, are moving into another property with pre-installed equipment, or return it if you’re switching to another provider. You may need to lease equipment for services at your new address.
If your community provided you with Xfinity internet service, service disconnection is managed by your property and based on your lease move-out date. If your community did not provide you with Xfinity internet service, please contact us at 1-800-XFINITY.
