How to avoid accidental Mexico or Canada roaming charges near the border

If you live or travel near the United States (U.S.)-Mexico or U.S.-Canada border, your phone may connect to a nearby non-U.S. network. This can lead to Mexico or Canada data usage and charges. This happens because mobile devices connect to the strongest signal in range, even if that signal is from a tower across the border.

You can avoid this by connecting to your home network or choosing Xfinity Mobile or xfinitywifi when you are away from home.

How to choose your network

On iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap My Networks.
  3. Pick Xfinity Mobile.
    • If Xfinity Mobile is not available, choose xfinitywifi.

On Android

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Network & Internet or Connections (varies by device).
  3. Open WiFi or Mobile Networks.
  4. Pick Xfinity Mobile.
    • If Xfinity Mobile is not available, choose xfinitywifi.
