Check the Battery for Your Voice Modem

Print
Your XFINITY Voice modem uses power from an external power source like an outlet. Your XFINITY Voice service - and any other devices that connect through your modem, like a cordless phone, home alarm, security, or personal emergency devices - may be disrupted if there is an electrical power outage.

Checking Your Modem's Battery

If your battery is inside your XFINITY Voice modem, the status will be indicated by a light:
  • If the battery light on your modem is solid, the battery is fully charged and in good health.
  • If the battery light on your modem is blinking, the battery may need to be replaced.
    • Note: If you have recently removed the battery and/or utilized the backup battery during an outage, the battery light will continue to blink until it is fully charged. Please allow eight hours for the charge to be fully restored.
  • If the battery light on your modem is out, the battery may be missing, depleted entirely or not connected properly. Get instructions on how to install a battery in your voice modem or wireless gateway.

If your battery is outside of your XFINITY Voice modem, the status will be indicated by the color of the battery light.

Blue light:
  • If the battery light is solid blue, the battery is connected to your XFINITY Voice modem and either being charged or on standby after being charged.
  • If the battery light is blue and blinking, the battery is connected and receiving power.
  • If the battery light is blinking between blue and green, the battery is downloading new firmware.
Green light:
  • If the battery light is green and blinking, the battery is in the process of connecting to your XFINITY Voice modem.
  • If the battery light is green and blinking very quickly, the battery is rejoining your network and in the process of connecting to your XFINITY Voice modem.
Red light:
You might also notice that your battery light is one of the above colors and pulsing.
  • If the battery light pulses twice, the battery is in a low battery state. Please ensure that the battery is connected to a power source and allow eight hours for the charge to be fully restored.
  • If the battery light pulses four times, the battery is not working properly.

Note: Immediately after connecting the battery to your XFINITY Voice modem, you might hear a chirp. If the battery chirps once, it has successfully connected to your XFINITY Voice modem.

The Convenience of Backup Power

A backup battery can be purchased and installed in your XFINITY Voice modem to provide additional hours of service during a power outage.
  • Note: If there is a power outage and a backup battery is installed in your Voice modem, only the primary phone number will work.
Backup batteries are available for purchase.
  • Note: If your modem has two battery slots, you will only need one battery in order to receive up to eight hours of backup power.
