Configure Windows Vista Network Settings for XFINITY Internet

This article lists the steps to configure Windows Vista network settings for XFINITY Internet on your home computer. This article also lists the steps to:
  • Obtain an Internet Protocol (IP) address automatically
  • Obtain the Domain Name System (DNS) server address automatically
  • Verify the IP address is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled
  • Clear all the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) addresses
  • Set the Network Basic Input/Output System (NetBIOS) option to default

Configure Settings

  1. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Internet.

  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  4. Click Manage network connections.
    Prompt to click Manage network connections (near bottom) appears.
     
  5. Right-click the connection and click Properties.

  6. Click the Networking tab and click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click Properties.

  7. On the General tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  8. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  9. Click Advanced.

  10. In Advanced TCP/IP Settings, select the IP Settings tab. Verify that the IP Address is DHCP Enabled.

  11. While still in Advanced TCP/IP Settings, select the DNS tab.
  12. If there are DNS Server addresses, highlight them and click Remove. If there are DNS suffixes, highlight them and click Remove.

  13. Select the WINS tab. If there are WINS addresses, highlight them and click Remove.
  14. Set NetBIOS setting to Default.
  15. Click OK.

To confirm that you have Internet access, simply restart your computer and open your web browser.
