Install and Activate Your Purchased Modem for XFINITY Service

In order to activate your new modem, you will need the account number and telephone number associated with your Comcast account. This information can be found on your Comcast monthly bill statement or order confirmation email. If you are a new customer, please place your order for service prior to attempting to activate your modem.

Before You Purchase

Before you purchase a new modem, be sure to confirm that the device you plan to purchase is approved for use on Comcast's network by referencing the list of devices provided on mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com.

Installation

  1. If you are replacing a modem currently connected in your home, unplug that device from the cable or coaxial outlet and plug the new modem into that same outlet. If you do not have an existing modem set up, simply plug your new modem into the main cable or coaxial outlet in your home.
  2. Connect the power connector to the new modem and electrical outlet.
  3. If you subscribe to XFINITY Voice service and your new device supports this service, connect the phone connector (RJ11) to the new modem and phone outlet. Otherwise, skip this step.
  4. Wait for the modem to come online. (Documentation from your modem's manufacturer will provide information regarding how long this will take for your specific device).
  5. Once the modem is online, connect a laptop or computer to the modem using an Ethernet cable. You may also connect via WiFi if the modem is capable.
    • Tip: If the modem does not come online, try another cable or coaxial outlet in your home.

Activation

  1. Open a web browser. You should automatically be directed to the XFINITY Activation page. If not, please go to www.xfinity.com/activate.
  2. Enter the account information and additional details for which you are asked via the webpage.
  3. After entering the appropriate information, activation will be complete.
