X1 DVR Services Overview

A Digital Video Recorder, or DVR, is a simple way to watch your favorite shows. It lets you record any TV program and watch when it's convenient for you. DVR also allows you to rewind and fast-forward live TV, pause a show, or even create your own instant replays.

General X1 DVR Information

Record Up to Six Shows at Once: With DVR service on X1, you can record up to six* shows at once. Set recordings, play back shows, delete and manage recordings from all your X1 devices. Schedule a program, series, personality or sports team to record. Specify record options to end a recording late, record only new episodes, or choose channel preferences (like HD). Plus, access all of your recordings or prioritize your series by selecting Saved on the Xfinity menu. You cannot record more shows simultaneously, even if you have more than one X1 DVR.

Note: The Pace XG1 v1 can only record up to five shows at once. If you have a Pace XG1 v1 and would like to have a device that records up to six shows at once, please contact us.

Watch in Any Room: Watch your recordings on any TV in the house. You can even start watching in one room and finish in another with multi-room DVR functionality.

Store Hundreds of Shows: Enjoy plenty of storage space, enough for hundreds of shows, so you don't have to delete your favorite shows to make room for new ones.

Fast-Forward and Rewind: The X1 DVR offers fast-forward and rewind in four different speeds. You can also press the Page Up and Page Down keys to skip ahead or back in five-minute intervals, which is helpful when you are trying to find the end of a show.

Fast-Forward Commercial Breaks: Smart Resume lets you easily resume watching your select eligible recordings when you start to fast-forward through commercial breaks.

DVR Sports Highlights: Jump between NFL game moments when you have DVR Sports Highlights enabled.

Scheduled Recordings

Schedule Recordings: There are many options to schedule DVR recordings. You can use the TV Box and remote control to directly set your DVR recordings. Learn more about recording a program on X1.

Episode/Series Recordings: The default option is to record only the episode of the program that you have selected. If the program is part of a series, such as a comedy, drama or recurring news or sports program, you also have the option to record the series. Learn more about recording a series on X1.

Recording Start Times: The DVR is synced with the TV listings. If a network starts a program a minute earlier than the on-screen program guide's scheduled time, the DVR will miss that first minute, unless you program the DVR to start a minute early. Start times may be adjusted on the Record Options screen. Learn more about changing the start or stop time of a recording on your X1 DVR.

Auto Extend: In case an auto-extendable program you’ve scheduled to record runs over the scheduled time, Auto Extend will automatically extend your recording by 90 minutes and end once the program is over. Game recordings run 15 minutes after the end of the game to account for post-game activities.

View Recordings: To view your scheduled recordings, go to the Scheduled section in your Saved menu. This section will show you what's scheduled to record by day. Select the day you want to review and press OK to see programs and series that will record.

Scheduling Conflicts: If you set up more than your maximum recordings that air at the same time, you may be presented with a conflict notification. You can choose to record your new program and cancel the lowest priority program or just cancel the new recording request. The recording should also display an icon in the guide or program information to indicate it will not record. You can always see what will record in your Scheduled Recording list under the Saved menu. Learn more about prioritizing recording on your X1 DVR.

Power Outage Information: In the event of a power outage, only the recordings scheduled to record while the power was out will be affected. In this instance, you may see one or more segments recorded, as your DVR will attempt to record before and after the power outage. All recordings saved prior to the power loss are preserved, as well as future scheduled recordings.

Stored Recordings

Storage Capacity: Currently, your X1 DVR can record approximately 150 total hours of HD and/or SD programming on the hard drive, and 60 hours of cloud DVR storage per X1 DVR (150 hours in some locations).

Manage Your Recordings: You can manage your stored and scheduled recordings by choosing Record Options to Modify or Cancel your recordings.

Keep Your Recordings: You can keep your recordings for up to one year, but you may need to erase some recorded programs from time to time in order to make room for new ones. You can change the recording option to For 1 Year if you want to be able to watch them over and over again. Choose Record Options, Modify Recording (if it's a series, you’ll also have the option to modify just the episode or the series), then save For 1 Year.
  • If your DVR storage is full of recordings saved for one year and you attempt to schedule a new recording, you'll be notified that your storage is full, and you'll be unable to start a new recording until you delete an existing recording.

Filter Your Recordings: View recordings by the device they were recorded on. Simply pick the device for which you want to view recordings.

Delete Recordings: You can delete recordings by going to the Saved section and navigating to Recordings. Deleted recordings are located within the Recordings section - they can be found in the last row on the page. Learn more about deleting a recording on X1.

Recover Deleted Recordings: If you accidentally deleted a recording, no problem! Check the Deleted option in your X1 DVR. Select the recording you wish to recover and select Recover to move it back to your recordings or select Delete Now to permanently delete it. Learn more about recovering a recording deleted from your X1 DVR.
