If your TV has a QAM tuner, you will need a digital device or CableCARD. Xfinity no longer gives CableCARDs to customers, but if you already have a CableCARD with Xfinity TV service, you can continue to use it. Due to device limitations, it’s recommended to upgrade your service to Xfinity X1.
How it works
- If you live in a market where Limited Basic and Expanded Basic channels are encrypted, you’ll need a digital device or CableCARD to watch your channels.
- TVs with a QAM tuner will get Limited Basic channels without a digital device in markets where signals aren’t encrypted yet.
- To avoid service interruptions, install Xfinity equipment or other professional devices (like a CableCARD or a TiVo).
