Configure Outlook 2010 for Comcast Email

To configure your Microsoft Outlook 2010 client to work with Comcast email, please follow the steps below.

Please Note, utilizing third-party email clients (e.g., Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) to access your Comcast.net email address will potentially expose your Xfinity ID and password to fraud and other risks. It is recommended that you access your Comcast email by going to Xfinity Connect (my.Xfinity.com) and then clicking Email, or by using the Xfinity Connect mobile application.

How to Configure Outlook 2010

  1. Open Outlook 2010.
  2. Click the File menu.
  3. Click the Account Settings button, then select Account Settings…
  4. Click New…
  5. Select the Email Account radio button, then click Next.
    On the Add new account screen, options for E-mail account, Text Messaging and Other are available. The E-mail account option is selected at the top.
     
  6. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.
    On the add new account screen, the Manually configure server settings or addition server types option is selected at the bottom.
     
  7. Confirm Internet E-mail is selected and click Next again.
  8. Enter your name into the Your Name field and your full email address into the E-mail Address field.
  9. Select IMAP in the Account Type field. Enter imap.comcast.net into the Incoming mail server field and smtp.comcast.net into the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
  10. Confirm your username has automatically been entered into the User Name field. Enter your password into the Password field.
    • Note: Your username should include @comcast.net.
  11. Click More Settings…
    On the Add Account screen, user information has been entered and the More Settings button is highlighted at lower right.

     
  12. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
  13. Click the check-box for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Confirm the radio button for Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
    On the Outgoing Server tab of the Internet E-mail Settings screen, The My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option is checked and the Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected at the top.
     
  14. Click the Advanced tab.
  15. Enter 993 in the Incoming server (IMAP) field. Select SSL from the drop-down box for Use the following type of encrypted connection.
  16. Enter 587 in the Outgoing server (SMTP) field. Select TLS from the drop-down box for Use the following type of encrypted connection.
  17. Click OK.
    On the Advanced tab of the Internet E-mail Settings screen, Incoming and Outgoing server information is entered at the top.
     
  18. Click Next. Outlook will perform a test of the account settings.
  19. Click Close when the test completes.
    On the Test Account Settings screen, a Congratulations! Message is displayed at the top and the Close button is highlighted at right.
     
  20. Click Finish.
  21. Click Close.
Congratulations! You're done reconfiguring your Outlook 2010 client to send and receive Comcast email.
