Xfinity WiFi Hotspots Overview

For questions about Xfinity WiFi Hotspots during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, see our frequently asked questions.

Xfinity has millions of WiFi hotspots throughout our service area to make sure you’re always connected. These hotspots give you fast, convenient WiFi and are free to Xfinity Mobile customers and to those who have the Performance Internet package or higher.

Upgraded access to Xfinity WiFi Hotspots is now included with Xfinity post-pay Internet. Not available to Xfinity Prepaid-only customers. Restrictions apply. Not available in all areas.

Prepaid Instant TV customers can get access to 40 hours of Xfinity WiFi Hotspots every 30 days. (Find out your level of Xfinity service.)

You may only have 10 active sessions connected to Xfinity WiFi at the same time. If you exceed 10 active sessions, you’ll need to disconnect a device from Xfinity WiFi in order to connect an additional device.

Hotspot usage doesn’t count against the monthly data usage allowance for Xfinity Internet customers.

If you don’t have one of these services, you can buy hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly Xfinity WiFi On Demand Passes.

Note: If you want to turn a hotspot that’s broadcasting from your home Xfinity Gateway on or off, here’s how.

How to Know If You Can Connect to Xfinity WiFi Hotspots

You can connect to Xfinity WiFi from any wireless device, like a laptop, cell phone, or tablet, or any device that has a browser already installed.

How to Connect

To sign in when you’re at an Xfinity Hotspot:
  1. Using your wireless device, connect to the Xfinity WiFi network (network name: xfinitywifi) and open your web browser.
  2. The browser will take you to the Xfinity WiFi sign-in page.
    • If you don't see the sign-in page, type in a different address, like xfinity.com.
  3. Sign in with your Xfinity ID and password and register your device.
    • You can use your primary or secondary username and password.
    • If you don’t remember one of them, we can help you find your Xfinity ID or password.

Notes:
  • Once you've signed in and registered your device, you may be asked to install the Xfinity WiFi secure profile, which gives you enhanced security at many hotspot locations. The steps to install depend on your operating system (Windows, macOS, Android, etc.), so just follow the instructions you see on-screen.
  • We recommend installing the security profile so that it automatically connects to hotspots.

Understanding Xfinity's Secure WiFi

You can now find Xfinity WiFi Hotspots ("XFINITY") in many outdoor locations and small businesses, and new hotspots are being added all the time.

Once you’re connected and signed in at a secure hotspot, the data you send between your devices and where the WiFi is coming from is safe.

To get into the secure network, you have to have a secure profile on your device. For Android devices, the profile is part of the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app. Go to our FAQs to find out more.

When you load the secure profile on your device, you’ll be authenticated automatically, and you’ll be connected to the secure SSID. You have to download the secure profile to connect to the XFINITY SSID automatically, but it’s optional for the xfinitywifi SSID.

These devices work on secure Xfinity WiFi Hotspots:
  • Apple devices running on operating system version 11.0 or later.
  • Android devices running on operating system version 4.4 or later.
  • MacBooks running operating system X 10.7 or later.
  • Microsoft Windows 10 or later.

Note: Blackberry, Chromebook, Linux PCs, and other devices such as Kindle are not supported at this time.

Connection Time

Xfinity WiFi will disconnect you from the network after you’ve left the hotspot (typically after five minutes) or after being inactive for a period of time.

However, once you sign in on a wireless device, it’ll be registered for Automatic Sign-In and you won’t have to put in your username and password again.

This is for your security and a better WiFi experience.

Automatic Sign-In

Automatic Sign-In is a feature that recognizes devices that have signed into Xfinity WiFi before and lets them connect to the network without signing in again as long as the account is active and in good standing.

Also, your device will automatically connect to secure Xfinity WiFi if you’re using the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app or if you’ve installed the secure profile.
  • If you change the password for the account you’re using to get into the hotspots, your profile will have to be reinstalled.
  • If you’re using an Xfinity ID you made before, you’ll be able to use Automatic Sign-In when your account is fully active.
  • To use Xfinity WiFi and Automatic Sign-In on more than one device, you’ll have to sign in on each one and register them separately.
    • To get the most up-to-date security features, the secure Xfinity WiFi profile has to be installed on each device.

Automatic Sign-In is not supported:
  • At the hotspots of some partner networks. You can find them on the hotspot location map.
  • If you’re not an Xfinity Internet customer.

Troubleshooting General Xfinity WiFi Connectivity

  • Many things can affect WiFi connections, including how close you are to the WiFi hotspot, buildings, trees, or other things getting in the way, and even the device type.
  • If xfinitywifi isn’t on the list of available networks, you’re probably not at an Xfinity WiFi Hotspot. Check the hotspot location map at wifi.xfinity.com or in the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app for Apple and Android.
  • If xfinitywifi is on the available network list, and you still can't connect, check your device to see how many signal bars there are. If you only have one or two bars, you might have to move closer to where the signal is coming from.

Troubleshooting Secure Xfinity WiFi Connectivity

  • If the SSID or network name XFINITY isn’t on the list of available WiFi networks, you’re probably not at an Xfinity WiFi Hotspot that supports secure connections to Xfinity WiFi.
  • If you’re using the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app and you can’t connect to secure Xfinity WiFi, make sure you have the security profile installed. For Apple users, try choosing Sign in as a different user in the app settings menu.
  • If you change the password for the account, you’ll have to sign into the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app again, or you’ll have to reinstall the security profile at wifi.xfinity.com to reconnect.
