Frequently asked questions
Construction has many moving parts but we can keep you informed on progress. Be sure to fill out our contact form, so you can be updated on availability in your area.
Xfinity is expanding its network to bring new broadband service to your area. This work is necessary to install the infrastructure needed for reliable, high-speed connectivity.
Construction typically occurs in phases. While work near your home may only take a few days, full construction in your area can take weeks or months depending on weather and conditions. The timelines all vary on terrain, existing infrastructure, and local municipalities. Our goal is to always work as efficiently as possible while prioritizing safety and quality and minimizing disruption.
You may notice construction crews and equipment such as drills, large trucks, trailers, and more. All workers will always wear safety vests and identification showing they are Xfinity employees or authorized contractors.
In some cases, work may occur within utility easements on private property. These are areas of a property designated for utilities and infrastructure such as electric, water, sewer, and communications lines. A public utility easement allows authorized providers, like Xfinity, to access that specific area for installation, maintenance, and restoration once the work is complete.
We will not need to enter homes or businesses during construction. All work is on the street and outside of homes and businesses. Sign up for updates on when Xfinity or Comcast Business services will be available.
Temporary disturbance may occur. Xfinity and its contractors are responsible for restoring impacted areas to their original condition once work is complete. Before construction begins, professional marking crews will identify underground utilities using paint and flags. These markings are critical for safety and help prevent damage to existing infrastructure. Please do not remove them — they allow construction to proceed as quickly and safely as possible. In some cases, you may see green boxes in your yard, which are above‑ground connection points—called pedestals or "peds”. These link homes and businesses to underground fiber lines. They are designed to be secure, durable, and easier to service in the event of an outage. We’ll work to minimize the number of pedestals and place them in the least obtrusive locations possible.
Watch for notifications such as door hangers or fliers. Secure pets if crews need temporary access to backyards. Remain aware of construction activity and equipment. Be patient as crews work to complete construction safely and efficiently.
Network expansion is planned in phases and depends on existing infrastructure, geography, and local permitting. While we may not be able to build to every address at once, we’re always looking for opportunities for future expansion. As plans develop, we will continue to work with local leaders and municipalities to evaluate next steps.
If you provide your contact information, we’ll keep you informed about expansion progress and our services. You are also welcome to visit an Xfinity Retail Store where you can learn more about Xfinity Internet, Mobile, Video, Home Security, and Xfinity Voice.
