When you check to see if you can bring your own device to Xfinity Mobile, you'll get one of a few results.
A key part of the compatibility check is when we ask you to enter your IMEI number, your device's unique identifier that allows us to check whether you can bring your device to Xfinity Mobile.
Here's what each of the results means:
Your device is compatible
You can move forward with signing up and activating your device on Xfinity Mobile. Your device and software is compatible and ready for switching.
Your device is compatible with an alternate IMEI
If you see this message it means the IMEI you entered wasn’t compatible with eSIM on our network, but we checked for an Alternate IMEI on your device. You can move forward with signing up and activating your device on Xfinity Mobile. Your device and software is compatible and ready for switching.
What’s an alternate IMEI?
- An alternate IMEI number is the unique identifier for an additional SIM slot either (electronic or physical SIM) slot on a device that supports more than one SIM slot.
How can I find my alternate IMEI?
- You can see the IMEI numbers on your device by following the steps below:
- Apple: Settings > General > About > IMEI
- Android: Settings > About Phone > IMEI
Your device isn't compatible
Different carriers use different network technology. As a result, not all devices are made for all networks. So when a device is made for use on one carrier, it may not be compatible with the technology used on another.
If you received this message, it means that your device isn't compatible with the network. You can still trade in your device and shop for a new one.
Your device is compatible but locked
Many devices are locked to the carrier they were purchased from, but they can usually be unlocked once the device is fully paid off.
If your device is locked or we are unable to determine its lock status, you’ll see one of these messages:
- “Your device is compatible, but its locked to your carrier”
- “Your device is compatible, but it may be locked to your carrier"
If this happens, your device will need to be unlocked first before you can join and activate it with Xfinity Mobile. Review learn how to unlock your phone from another carrier.
Once your device is unlocked, you'll also want to update your device’s software before activating it with us to ensure it works seamlessly with the Xfinity Mobile network.
Locked devices can’t be activated on a new mobile network or with out-of-date software, so make sure to follow these steps before you bring your device to Xfinity Mobile.
