‘Chernobyl’ on HBO – the cast, the plot, and more
Chernobyl stars Jared Harris (“Valery Legasov”), Emily Watson (“Ulana Khomyuk”), and Stellan Skarsgård (“Boris Shcherbina”). Following the events that happened immediately after the infamous Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster, the series starts at the beginning: when the power plant exploded.
The series follows the immediate moments after the explosion all the way through the fiery aftermath (including many years later, after government retaliation and intervention came to the public’s attention). Based primarily on the accounts of Pripyat natives, the series reveals the locals’ struggles, fears, and frustration in the wake of a horrible, man-made disaster. Though not the most heart-warming topic, the Chernobyl disaster paints an intriguing cautionary tale that draws parallels to today’s political landscape.
